Starving Artist 2015, LAUNCH Residency & VIP Preview Reception to Hebru Brantley
The artists featured in HATCH Projects exhibition, Reference Rot all
share a penchant toward the informational, the didactic, and the
moralizing – traits normally spurned in the mainstream contemporary art
world.
Like Hansel and Gretel attempting to re-trace their steps only to find their bread crumbs gobbled up, artists Rachel E. Foster, Maya Mackrandilal, and Ryan Thompson
have done exhaustive research in the process of their projects, but
their sources may not be evident in the final product. While audiences
often times implore artists to reveal more information about their
sources, the artists in Reference Rot embrace the fractured,
disconnected relationship between the originating information and the
mutated product.

The Chicago Artists Coalition is proud to present A Challenge to the
Summer Group Show: BOLT Alumni Exhibition & Dialogue, an
experimental survey and series of events that directly acknowledge and
engage its artists and audiences.

BOLT Residency 2015-2016
Alejandro Figueredo Diaz-Perera
is an emerging artist from Havana, Cuba. Working across the mediums of
video, photography, painting, installation and text, he presents
metaphors to illustrate how relationships are established among social
individuals.
Amina Ross
is a transdisciplinary artist based in Chicago who creates palatable
tensions of repulsion and seduction through visual abstraction.
Aram Han Sifuentes is a social practice fiber artist living and working in Chicago. IL, USA.
David Alekhuogie’s multi-disciplinary practice is centered on photography and investigates memory, technology, media, and power.
David Bodhi Boylan’s
work in wood sculpture aims to freeze moments of material transience
and imperfection, and elevate them to significant subjects of artistic
intervention.
Iris Bernblum
is an artist living and working in Chicago. She uses a variety of
medias to explore the ideas around tension and release, power and play,
fantasy and escape.
Jaclyn Jacunski is
a printmaker, sculptor, organizer, writer, and teacher whose artistic
considers the of productive engagement of vacant spaces, gentrified
neighbors and contested landscapes.
Johana Moscoso
is an artist living and working in in Chicago, IL, USA. She uses video
performance, live performance, textile and fiber art to explore concepts
related to gender roles, migrations, and Hispanic and American cultures
from a personal point of view.
Leonard Suryajaya’s
work explores intricate and complicated layers of selfhood in the
context of cultural background, intimacy, sexual preference, and
personal displacement.
Suzette Bross
is a photographer living and working in Chicago, Illinois. Her work is
in the permanent collections of The Art Institute of Chicago; The
National Gallery of Art, DC; the Cleveland Museum of Art; Museum of
Contemporary Photography, Chicago; the Block Museum, Evanston; and more.
Hebru Brantley Exhibition at Vertical Gallery: VIP Preview

As a follow up to the May 28th studio visit with Hebru Brantley, join Collectors Circle one week later on June 5th for an exclusive preview reception with the artist for his solo exhibition, Memoirs of the Minimum Wage, at
Vertical Gallery.
Exploring growing up as a middle-class citizen in America, Brantley
will show sketches, water colors, paintings, and sculptures that dare us
to challenge the norm and question where we find value in society. RSVP

June, but will return in July. Stay tuned for an announcement of
upcoming educational workshops soon.
LAUNCH Invitational Residency, a nomination-based professional
development program for artists emerging from Chicago area undergraduate
schools, returns for a third year June 11 - 14, 2015. Combining career
development, creative practice, and community-building, LAUNCH empowers
students to identify and pursue the next steps in their professional
practice by introducing them to the tools, resources, and networks that
will help them achieve their goals. Offered to a limited number of
promising students selected by faculty, the 4-day-long experience
creates an intimate, rigorous environment within which artists learn
from both professionals and peers in order to develop a personalized
approach to starting a fulfilling career.
LAUNCH Invitational Residency is organized by CAC Education Manager
Penny Duff in collaboration with LAUNCH Artist Leaders Anthony Romero
and Abigail Satinsky, and CAC LAUNCH Intern Shana Hafner. For more

One of Chicago's most eclectic and popular events! Bringing together
outstanding artists and innovative culinary talent, Starving Artist is a
night when great art, great food, and spontaneous performances collide.
CHEFS This year, guests can expect phenomenal
dishes by Tony Quartaro of Formento's, Pat Sheerin of Trencherman, Sean
Pharr of The Bristol, Shawn Doolin of Venue One, burgers by Shake Shack,
and delicious treats and specialty coffee drinks and cocktails by
Lavazza.
ARTISTS Artists Marissa Lee Benedict and Amber
Ginsburg, Andrew Rosinski, Maurene Cooper, and Tori Terzakis, and Stacia
Yeapanis will work with the chefs to create collaborative
installations.
The evening will feature music by DJ
Swaguerrilla, surprise performances by Power of Cheer, video art by
Lilli Carré, Theodore Darst, and Snow Yunxue Fu, and an online auction
hosted by Paddle8. Bidding begins online June 11.
